The Dash of Life
The beginning… and the end. The dates etched on tombstones and written in the prefaces of biographies always point to one’s arrival and departure.
First comes the birth date, followed by a dash, and then the date when we leave this world. But some people, within that dash, leave behind a masterpiece of humanity. As long as breath fills the lungs of humankind, and as long as time moves forward, that beautiful masterpiece—crafted by the soul of a remarkable person—will remain.
The dash of life represents the line between birth and passing, a line where we enter the world with the cries of birth and leave it in silence. It’s a line where one can choose to be remembered for kindness, or for cruelty. It’s a choice, and through it, a person can leave a legacy of goodness or infamy.
This line flows through time, shaping how we live, how we endure, and how we think. Many men and women have used this dash to create a legacy of humanity, while others have filled it with hardship and misdeeds. As long as the world turns, as long as the sun and moon shine, as long as rivers flow, that beauty—or ugliness—will endure.
But how does it happen that a loving mother, within the dash of her life, makes such a great decision? A woman who has lived as a devoted mother and wife is led by fate to make a choice that leaves a lasting impact.
Mrs. Soheila Zamani, who personally battled cancer, made a beautiful decision during her lifetime—to leave behind a legacy of goodness and hope. She could have passed through her life quietly, like many others, without leaving her mark. But God illuminated her thoughts, and she decided to establish a foundation where warm hands would reach out to support cancer patients. And so, her dash became a line of light.
Her noble vision, embodied in the Mehre Soheila Charity Foundation, took shape after her passing through the dedicated efforts of her husband. Today, this foundation supports more than 350 patients and has become a refuge, calling upon kind and compassionate hearts to join in the support of cancer patients.
Today, you and I, in the dash of our own lives, have encountered the blessing known as the Mehre Soheila Charity Foundation. Let’s come together, hand in hand, and race toward God by helping one another. Let us leave behind a legacy of kindness in the dash of our own lives.
Upon this emerald tablet, it is written in gold:
“Nothing but the goodness of the noble-hearted shall remain.”
Stay blessed.
